University of Vermont Class of 1859. Member of Delta Psi Fraternity. Left the University of Vermont for that of North Carolina in 1859; served in Captain Ashe's 1st North Carolina Infantry, C.S.A.; raised Company E, 22d Texas Mounted Volunteers; promoted to General DeBray's staff with the rank of Major.
