Medal of HonorSep 1861 Pvt. in 1st Vermont Cavalry, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, Shenandoah Valley campaign, Second Bull Run, Major, Gettysburg, Medal of Honor, Kilpatrick's Richmond raid. Jun 1864 Col., commanded 2nd Bde/3rd Divn/Cavalry Corps in Shenandoah Valley campaign, Winchester, Cedar Creek, Petersburg, Appomattox. May 1865 appointed BG Vols.

Post War: Adjutant General of Vermont, internal revenue collector, politician.
