June 9, 1864
Johnson W. Niles of Pownal and one of the original members of Co. A, 2d Vt., died in the hospital at Alexandria, Va., on the 29 ult., from the effects of the amputation of his arm, he being wounded in the Wilderness fight. The amputation took place on the 20th.
Merritt F. Johnson, also of Pownal, and of Co. F, same reg., (Ed. 2d) also died about the same time from severe wounds received in the Wilderness fight.
