John H. Knowles died at the home of his son Tuesday morning at three o'clock. Mr. Knowles was born in East Farnham, P.Q., July 13, 1833. He was the son of Levi and Sarah Knowles and of Quaker birth, a descendant of Hannah Pope, an English poet. He was a veteran of the Civil War, being a corporal in Company I, 14th Vermont regiment, joining the army September 3,1862. He leaves a wife, whom he married July 3, 1859; also two sons, Wesley Knowles, N.D., of Michigan and Arby Knowles, a farmer of this town, with whom he resided; and also two grandchildren. .Mr. Knowles was a man of optimistic nature, gentle in manner and of devout Christian character and had long been a resident of Ferrisburg. He leaves many friends who mourn his loss. The funeral services will be held at the home of his son, Arby Knowles, Friday at 1:30 p.m.
