Bellows Falls
THE OLDEST SOLDIER OF THE CIVIL WAR DEADLarious Smith, who died Thursday night at the age of 92, was credited with being the oldest soldier of the civil war. He enlisted in Co. I, 12th Vermont volunteers, which went from Bellows Falls in 1863. He was then 67 and a man of remarkably strong physique. He would at the time of his death pass for a man of 60. He was twice married and leaves two sons, one Henry Smith, clerk of the Rutland court. He was a member of Stoughton Grand Army post and will be buried with military honors today.
