John Thornton of Brandon, aged 78 years, committed suicide by hanging himself from a beam in the barn at the home of Mrs. James B. Thomas on the Forestdale road, where he had been a boarder for some time. He had been in poor health for some time. He was a veteran of the Civil war. The funeral was held this afternoon. He is survived by one son, Frank, of Rutland.
