He enlisted in the 1st Regt. U.S.
Dragoons Sept. 1, 1841. Served 5 years
& 8 days, during which time
he participated in all the principal
battles between the Indians and
U.S troops. He again entered the
Service as Capt. of Co. H., 10 Regt. Vt.
Vols. Aug. 8, 1862, commissioned as
Major July 3, 1864 and was mustered
out of service on account of Physical
Disability caused from wounds
received in the battle of Cold Harbor, Va.
