Obituary
Killed in the battle of Black Forest, May 12th, George E. Whitefield, of Johnson, formerly of Francestown, N.H., aged 24 years, 4 months and 12 days, a member of Co. C, 17th Vt. Regt.
He's gone - forever gone !
The one we loved so dear:
Far in a distant land he lies,
And never will come near.
Enlisted in his country's cause,
A soldier, brave was he;
But I shall never see his face -
O how it sorrows me.
We know he's gone to find his rest,
Far in that happy land.
Where we will try, some future day,
To join the heavenly band.Source: Lamoille Newsdealer, June 29, 1864
