Dirk J. Wild, Azariah Wild's 2nd great grandson, included the following in his descendant registration: "Azariah Wild, acting as special operative for the US Secret Service, appointed Pat Garrett as deputy US Marshal to pursue and arrest Billy the Kid. Garrett later killed Billy the Kid."
