Year and place of birth taken from IL muster roll. Daniel migrated to Mt. Pleasant, Racine Co., WI and was married there to Ellen Jane Sullivan 4 Jun 1857. They next appear in the 1860 census of Syracuse, Mill Creek Township, Morgan County, MO. He enlisted in the Union army from Exeter, Scott Co., IL on 13 August 1862. Daniel was taken prisoner 18 Nov 1864 between Madison and Rutledge, GA and held as a prisoner of war. He was paroled at North East Ferry, NC 27 Feb 1865. Records show three different death dates: March 6, March 10, and March 20. Daniel's brother (or possible cousin) Henry Hart served in the VT 11th Regt. Co. K Heavy Artillery and later married Daniel's widow in Sangamon Co., IL.
