James Mattison, a well known resident of Pownal Center, died suddenly Sunday morning. Mr. Mattison was 66 years of age and a veteran of the civil war. For many years he held the office of justice of the peace and was known by all his friends as "Squire James." His counsel and advice were sought at all times. Mr. Mattison suffered a paralytic shock some years since and has been confined to the house for a long period. Sunday morning he was found dead in bed by members of his family. Mr. Mattison is survived by his widow and one son., Ernest Mattison of Pownal. Three children had preceded him in death. The funeral will be held from his late residence Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock Rev. Robert H. Washburne officiating. The interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
