C. Edward Germain, who died a few days ago in Burlington, at the age of 71 years, made a trip on a sailing vessel around the horn to California, returning in 1863. He then enlisted as a private in Company K, 81st N.Y. Inf., and served during the remainder of the war. For 31 years he was a grocer in Burlington and later engaged in the shoe business, retiring about 15 years ago on account of ill health.
