George W. Way

The Vermont Journal, May 13, 1927

George Way, a widower, passed away at the home of Mrs. Irwin on the Brook road Saturday, April 23 at the age of 84 years. For nearly 30 years, Mr. Way had been employed more or less by William Hoisington. He was a fifer in the Civil war but for some reason never had secured a pension.

Sons of Veterans Obtain Headstone

The Vermont Journal, October 24, 1930

Harry E. Chadbourne, Past Commander of the Sons of Union Veterans, has received from Washington D. C. a grave stne for the late George W. Way, who was a member of the 2d New York Vol. Company L. He enlisted at Chesterfield, New York, November 12, 1861, at age 18, and was discharged April 10, 1864, at New Orleans, La., on account of disability. Past Commander Chadbourne has had the stone set in Ascutney cemetery, where Mr. Way is buried.
