Astoria, Or., June 9. - (Special)

Daniel P. Shepherd, a veteran of the Civil War, and a resident of Clatsop County for the past 30 years, died here today from cancer of the throat. The deceased was born in Fayston, Vermont on June 15, 1834. He served three years during the Civil war in the Sixth Vermont Infantry and was retired as a corporal. About 30 years ago he came to Oregon and had resided here since that time. Mr. Shepherd left four sons and two daughters all of whom reside in Vermont.
