MERRITT S. SANFORD DEAD

Father of Manager of Willis Wood Theater Succumbs to Heart Disease

Merrit S. Sanford, for the last fifteen years in the commission business at 123 East Fourth street, died suddenly at his home, 423 West Tenth street, this morning of heart failure. Mr. Sanford had not been confined to his bed. His death occurred while he was dressing.

Mr. Sanford was 62 years of age. He came to Kansas City seventeen years ago with his family from Chicago. He was born in Vermont and served through the Civil war in a Massachusetts regiment. He enlisted as a private and was advanced to the rank of captain before the conclusion of the war.

Mr. Sanford leaves a widow and four children. Walter, the eldest son, is the manager of the Willis Wood Theater. The others are, Arthur, Elmer and Mary. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon from the family residence at 2 o'clock.

The services will be conducted by Mrs. Amanda Baird and W.E. Benson of the Second Church of Christ, Scientist. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery.
