After a brief illness Peter M. Abbott passed away Sept. 8. He was born in Barnet, May 27, 1843, and the most of his life was spent in this vicinity. He enlisted Aug. 13, 1862, in Co. K, 3d Vt. Volunteers and was (as far as we know) the last Civil War veteran living in Ryegate.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the R. P. church and many relatives and friends were present. The services were conducted by Rev. E. W. Puffer of Groton assisted by Rev. D. B. Elsey.
The bearers were James Achilles, Frank Page, Lee Somers and Martin Whitehill. Interment was in the Walter Harvey cemetery.
