St. Johnsbury Man Was Historian and Civil War Veteran.

St. Johnsbury, Nov. 2. - Stephen O. Todd, a well-known portrait painter, died today at St. Johnsbury Center, in his 68th year. He was born at Charlemont, Mass., and served in the Civil War in a Massachusetts regiment. After the war he went to Florence, Italy, to study art, and after returning to this country had studios at Hartford, Conn., and Albany, N. Y. He attained a considerable reputation as an artist and was a man of wide culture and deep historical research. He had made his home for 20 years with relatives at the Center. He was unmarried.
