Charles Battles, a former resident of this town but later of Lowell, Mass., died the 15th. inst. at the General Hospital of that city after an operation for a mastoid abscess to the left ear. He was a great sufferer for two weeks and one day when death came to his release. Mr. Battles is survived by a second wife of a few months, and one daughter, Mrs, Myra Clinton of Lowell, and relatives in this state. He was a veteran of the Civil War. His age was 86 years.
