Death of a Vermont soldier
Hiram R. Bickford of the 10th Vermont regiment, died at the Soldiers' Rest in this city Sunday morning. Rev. H. Parsons conducted the funeral services at the Rest at 5 o'clock the same afternoon, and the remains were taken to Waterbury, Vt., on the early train Monday morning. Mr. Bickford has four sons in the army, but not content with that representation gave his own personal services and his life to his country. He had been at the Rest three weeks, to(o) ill to be taken home, but his wife was present to care for him and cheer him in his last hours. --- Springfield Republican.
