Civil War Veteran of Norwich Succumbs at the Age of 78 Years.

Norwich, Jan. 8. William Bicknell died at this home on main street yesterday after many years of ill=health from heart failure. He was 78 years of age and was born in West Fairlee, coming to Norwich to live at the age of nine. He was married 41 years ago to Mrs. Sarah Carpenter, who survives him, also one son, Edmund Carpenter, and a daughter, Mrs. Clayton Sargent.

He was a member of the Louis Bell post, G.A.R., Hanover, N.H., and served in the Fourth Vermont Regiment, Co. B, in the Civil war. He was at Gettysburg and Vicksburg and told many interesting incidents of the battles.
