Biography
Russell Carriel Bixby was born 20 February 1829 in Lyndon, VT (according to his four children's birth certificates). He married Cordelia Medora Rowe (Roe) on 21 August 1853, in Kirby, Vermont. Russell enlisted as a private in Co. C, 1st Vermont Cavalry, on 23 August 1864, and was listed as Missing in Action at Columbia Furnace on 7 October 1864. Although not specifically noted, most prisoners taken at Columbia Furnace appear on the records in prison camps in Richmond, and those who died were buried in Richmond National Cemetery, which is where we assume Bixby to be, in an unmarked graved. His wife, Cordelia, applied for his pension on 25 September 1865.
