The Carl Braun Collection

It saddens us to have to report that Carl E. Braun, passed away Feb. 17, 2003. A recent contributor to Vermont in the Civil War, Carl taught at Windsor High School; he was a writer, editor and publisher, a life member of both the National Rifle Association and the Vermont State Rifle and Pistol Association. He represented Vermont on seven rifle teams at the National Rifle Championships, was a member of the 1970 New England Championship Service Rifle Team, and won several Vermont State service rifle and small-bore rifle championships. He enjoyed history, was a member of the Green Mountain Civil War Round Table and an associate companion of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. -- from his obituary.


Carl was a collector, a historian, shooter, and a round table member. He was a Teacher. He loved teaching whether history or softball pitching. More importantly he was a proud American who loved and supported his country and those who were fighting for our freedoms both at home and abroad. -- Dennis Charles

Carl was my history teacher in high school. He was an avid Vermont collector--many of us will miss him. --Dewey Jones
