Volume 81, page 27

Woodstock Vt. Apr. 29th 1861.

To His Excellency,
Erastus Fairbanks
Governor of Vermont

Sir, For some days previous to the passage of the act by our Legislature for the raising of four additional regiments I had been engaged in recruiting a volunteer company at Woodstock -- I already have quite a respectable body of men and have the promise of many more;- And should your Excellency be willing to entrust me with Enlistment Papers I shall endeavor to do good service to the State;-- If these were sent me at an early day it would greatly facilitate my efforts in raising the balance of my Company.

I am with much respect
Your most obt Sevt.
Thomas O. Seaver

(Over)

To His Excellency,
Erastus Fairbanks
Governor of Vermont

Sir,

I am well acquainted with Tho O. Seaver. He is an entirely competent person to be entrusted with the enlistment papers which he requests, and to command the company raised by him, if he should receive the appointment.

Peter T. Washburn
