"The first soldiers' monument within a radius of 50 miles was dedicated to Morrisville Memorial day. It stands in the village at the foot of Academy park, and is built of Barre granite, surmounted by a bronze figure of a soldier. It was erected at a cost of $4,500, of which one-third was appropriated by the town, the remainder by public subscription." (Caledonian, 6/7/1911)
