More than 500 Vermont Civil War veterans attended or graduated from college, either before, during or after the war. The overwhelming majority, obviously, attended Vermont schools: UVM, Norwich, Middlebury, and Castleton and Woodstock Medical Schools, followed by the US Military Academy and Dartmouth, respectively. This listing includes not only Vermonters, but men who attended UVM and Middlebury who served in any unit (on both sides), and men from Norwich University who played an important leadership role with Vermont troops.
