STATE OF VERMONT.

Adjutant and Inspector General's Office
Woodstock, January 14, 1863.

To Henry Blake, Jr., Hardwick, Vt.:

SIr:--In performing the duty of enrolling the militia in Goshen Gore by Wheelock, this day assigned to you by commission, you will be governed by the accompanying regulations, issued for the guidance of Selectmen, in enrolling the militia of the several towns in this State, by the Statute of this State entitled "An Act relating to the organization, regulation and government of the militia of this State," approved December 2, 1862, and the Statute of this State entitled "An Act to provide for enrolling the militia in the several gores and unorganized towns in this State," copies of which are herewith forwarded to you.

The enrolment is to be completed in the month of January, 1863, and when completed, the book containing the same is to be by you deposited in the office of the County Clerk of the County of Caledonia, and on or before the first day of February, 1863. As soon thereafter as is practicable, and in the month of January 1863, you will transmit to the Adjutant and Inspector General of this State, a copy of the roll certified by you, and will also prepare and certify two additional copies of said Roll, and cause them to be posted in two public places within the said Goshen Gore.

From time to time, after said roll shall have been completed, you will add thereto the names of all persons residing within said Gore who shall arrive at the age of eighteen years, and of all persons between eighteen and forty-five years of age, and liable to enrolment, who shall come to reside in said Gore, and give notice to such persons of their enrolment, and certify the same to the Adjutant and Inspector General, and if any person enrolled within said Gore shall removed therefrom, you will note the fact of such removal against the name of such person, upon the original roll, and draw a red line across his name and certify the fact to the Adjutant and Inspector General; and if any enrolled person shall arrive at the age of forty-five years, and shall claim his exemption by filing an affidavit of such fact in the office of the County Clerk, or delivering the same to you, you will note such exemption against the name of such person, and draw a red line across his name, and certify the fact to the Adjutant and Inspector General.

And when any person, so enrolled, shall be exempted from enrolment by certificate of the Board of Medical Examiners, you will write upon the roll, against the name of such person, the words "Exempt by Certificate," and draw a red line across his name.

You will certify to this office your account for your time and expenses in and about the performance of said duty.
