Adjutant and Inspector General Reports
XVII. ORDER BY BRIG. GEN. DEVENS, THIRD DIVISION TWENTY-FOURTH ARMY CORPS.
Headquarters 3rd Division
24th Army Corps, March 15, 1865.
The Ninth Vermont Vols., having been excused from the duty during the present week,as the Regiment of the Division found best at inspection on the 10th day of March, 1865, has requested to e placed on picket duty, as, on account of its large size, its absence would make the duties of the other Regiments of its Brigade very severe.
The General commanding the Division has issued the necessary order, and especially commends the soldierly spirit, which shows itself in a willingness to do duty not absolutely required, when so doing the labor of comrades can be lightened.
He directs this order to be read at the Dress Parade of each regiment in the Division.
