STATE OF VERMONT
Adj't And Insp. Gen's Office
Woodstock, July 2, 1866

The following named soldiers, who enlisted for service in organizations from the state of Vermont, in the late war for the preservation of the Union, are not as yet finally accounted for. The last report received at this office in respect to each of them is stated against the name of each. It is important for the completion of the military records of the state that hteir fate should be ascertained. If possible all returned officers and soldiers of Vermont regiments, and the officers of towns and citizens of the state generally, are requested to examine the list, and if they have any information in respect to any of the men named therein, of a later date than than that indicated against the name of the men in remarks, or showing what has become of him, to communicate it at once to this office.

Also appears as Circular No. 4., Report of the Adjutant & Inspector General of the State of Vermont, From Oct. 1, 1865, to Oct. 1, 1866, (Walton's Steam Printing Establishment, Montpelier, 1866), Appendix A, p. 8

Peter T. Washburn: Adj't and Insp. Gen

Webmaster's footnote: With regard to Alexander Bruce - Alexander Bruce, age 20, credited to Rutland, served in the 1st Battery, from 12/19/1863 to 7/26/1864, when he was discharged for disability, before the recruits in the battery were transferred to the 2nd Battery, and subsequently the 1st Co., Heavy Artillery. Alexander Bruce, age 37, credited to Enosburg, served in the 3rd Battery, from 3/2/1865 to 6/15/1865. Best guess is his name was inadvertently transferred to the 2nd Battery, etc., but he had already been discharged.
