2nd Vermont Infantry
A Kind Act
A kind act. Dr. Higginbottom, the sugeon of the federal prisons at Richmond last season preserved the watch and five and a half dollars in gold, the property of Coporal ELISHA L. KEABLES, of Co. C, 2nd VT Regiment who was wounded at the Battle of Bull Run and died in consequence of his wounds at Richmond a few weeks thereafter, and sent them to his friends in this village by the hands of a Rhode Island soldier. The sick at Richmond speak in the highest terms of his kindness to them, which was so marked as to excite displeasure of the rebel authorities. It gives us great pleasure to record this commendable act of one whose interests would evidently have been better promoted by pursuing a widely different course.
