Sylvester Mero, Hartland

Born in Woodstock, Vermont, to Hezakiah and Harriett Mero, Sylvester Mero was 19 at the time of his enlistment. After his discharge he returned to Woodstock where on June 1, 1868 he married Harriet (Hattie) Hayes, the daughter of Nathan Hayes, another veteran of the 54th Regiment. On December 27, 1869 the Meros started a family with the addition of a baby boy. The family moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, where they lived with Hayes at 10 Hooper Street. Sylvester worked as a laborer and joined the George Ward Post #10 G.A.R. He died in Worcester and is buried at the Hope Cemetery.
