Martan and Edward Severance was thare. Lancy Came home with me. staid all night. vary Cold night. January 2, 1865 - Monday went to the Citty. Drove my Colt. had a dance to Mr. Forbes. had about 15 Coupple. Walter Thomas and Alford Palmer played. had a good time. January 3, 1865 - Tuesday went to Rutland and practised riding (**) and was excepted. came home at night. went to singing school to the Citty. Thad Kelsey Came up with ous and went to Singing School. (** practiced riding for the army) January 4, 1865 - Wednesday went to Rutland and was sworn in and mustered in and had diner at the senter. (**center) Al staid all nite at the Franklin House. Turner B. was down here in the eving. January 5, 1865 - Thursday had or bounty money paid. sent mine home by Mr. Pitts. had diner at the Franklin House and went to Burlington. see father at the deapo. had super at the American House and went to the Barracks on the Fair Grounds. January 6, 1865 - Friday got a pass and went up town. Called at Dr. Smiths. pleasant call. Stormed at night. January 7. 1865 - Saturday stormed all day hard. I was detaled to work in the Cook room. Norman Joel and Lancy sawed wood. staid in the barn most of the time. Lancy and I went home on a french. (**?) very hard storm. the rodes was full. got home at 3 1/2 oclock at night. January 8, 1865 - Sunday Henry and Albert Boardman Came up to our house in the eveing. went and rode and Caled at Mrs. Clarck. January 9, 1865 - Monday went down to uncle Olivers. Caled at the south school and then went up to the Citty. played youcar. father cared me to the vilage. went to Burlington. Lancy went with me. January 10, 1865 - Tuesday went down town and elected oferces and then went back to Camp. went down again and was mustered as a company. January 11, 1865 - Wednesday Norman and I wend down town and had our pictures taken to gether and I had 12 Checks taken. Joel Norman and Thad Change there bunk and we fixed ours up. January 12, 1865 - Thursday had drill fornoon and afternoon games. ______________ (**something here I just can't decipher!) Came and staid all night with us. January 13, 1865 - Friday had drill again. pleasant day. Norman went down town with Oscar Johnson. January 14, 1865 - Saturday had no drill to day. Dr. Thare Came up here an excegamened or quarters. January 15, 1865 - Sunday had puddon for supper and molassas. had a good sleep in the day time. January 16, 1865 - Monday had no drill fornoon or after noon. was expected to be paid of but was not. (**there are some extra notes written here - perhaps game scores, perhaps eucre. They read as follows:) 2-1, 3-5, 2-2, 4-1, 1-3, 1-2, 2-1 January 17, 1865 - Tuesday had 1 hour drill in the foornoon. had none in the after noon. the Clothing Came to day. was issued in the eving. I was on guard over it. January 18, 1865 - Wednesday had no drill to day. got a letter from Frank Bullard. got a pass and went down town to Mrs. Smiths. staid all night. had a good time. January 19, 1865 - Thursday had drill. Norman was on gard to day. sined the pay roles for 1 third of or Gov bounty. January 20, 1865 - Friday receved of pay 33 and a third in the foor noon. got a furlo in the after noon to go home. got home at 5 oclock. went to singing school up to the Citty. January 21, 1865 - Saturday drove my Colt to the Citty. went to Citty with Mrs. Treadway. team broke the Pole. had it mended. spent the eving with Mrs. Needhams. January 22, 1865 - Sunday drove my Colt to Citty. had a ride in Warrans Cutter with Charley Sealey and Warran. went to Albert B. in the eveing. (** Albert B. was Albert Boardman) January 23, 1865 - Monday stormed hard. father got home from over the Mountain. Caled in to School. went up to Mr. Abbies. went over to Lewis Abbey. stormed so I staid all night. January 24, 1865 - Tuesday Came home. drifted pretty bad. Norman, Joel went to Shorham to a dance to night. I went down to the South School and down to Morris. Came back. went to singing school. January 25, 1865 - Wednesday went to Brandon and to the vilage and up north to. got back at 12 oclock at night. was very cold indead. January 26, 1865 - Thursday went to the citty with Joel and Norman. went up to Edgars in the eving. had a good time. January 27, 1865 - Friday went to the Citty with Mils (**?) Hill. Caled to Lauria A. went back home. went to the Citty and then went down to Mr. Thomes to a party with E. O. had a good time. January 28, 1865 - Saturday George Cared me to the vilage and Lancy road with us. was hindered on the way. got to Burlington 6 oclock. went up to Mrs. Smiths. had supper. Came to Camp. January 29, 1865 - Sunday Joel was on gard today. I wrote a letter to Joshua to day. I staid in Camp all day. Lancy wrote a letter home to Laura. January 30, 1865 - Monday had a pass and went down town. got sum things. had drill foor noon and after noon to 3 hurs in the snow. Lancy wrote to letters to day. January 31, 1865 - Tuesday had Co drill in the foor noon. had petalian (**battallion) drill in afternoon. very pleasent day. fixed up our bunk sum. February 1, 1865 - Wednesday had drill in the foor noon. in the after noon had pattalian drill. I did not drill. I wrote a letter to Lewis Gillman. got a power of atuna (**power of attorney) of the Capt to draw my state pay. February 2, 1865 - Thurdsay had 1 Ev drill in the foor noon and 1 squad room drill in the after noon. February 3, 1865 - Friday had 2 drills. very pleasnt and warm to day. Mr. Partridge Came up here to night. I sent a letter home by him to Father. February 4, 1865 - Saturday had two drills to. I did not drill but once. rec a letter from Vane to day. February 5, 1865 - Sunday had enspection to day. R. Far (**?) Came up here. I got a pass and went to Mr. Smith. had a good time. ___ (**unable to read this) Clark was thare. wrote a letter home. February 6, 1865 - Monday had two drills to day. I got a pass and went to the deapot to see if George Came but he did not and got some things. February 7, 1865 - Tuesday had two drills to day. pleasant and warm. signe the Clothing rool. February 8, 1865 - Wednesday had two Co drills. I got a pass to the Citty. Lancy went with me. Caled at Mrs. Smiths. February 9, 1865 - Thursday had two Co drills in the after noon. our arms Came. sent 3 Val. maled a letter to George February 10, 1865 - Friday had 2 drills. the Capt sword was presened to him. Lancy and I went down to Citty. Lancy got a picture taken. February 11, 1865 - Saturday had 1 drill to day. most of the boys went down town to see the horse trot. I was on Guard. Lancy was on Gard to. February 12, 1865 - Sunday had enspection to day. I was out for I was on Guard. maled a letter home and one to Major and 2 others. Norman maled 3 Val 1 to Chas February 13, 1865 - Monday had 2 drills. Lut. Baldwin was presented with a Saber and belt and sash and ravolver. February 14, 1865 - Tuesday had 2 drills. George came up hear to day. he sead father had sold bill and sropt the coalt and had sold 5 sheep and sropt Cutter for a sley and father had gone over the mountain. February 15, 1865 - Wednesday had enspection to day. Got a pass and went down town with Geo and went to Mrs smiths. got my washing. February 16, 1865 - Thurdsay had 2 drills to day. I was on drill. George and Lancy went down town. George staid all nite to Mrs. Smiths. February 17, 1865 - Friday I was on detale to get wood for the hospertal. Norman has been sick for 4 days. I got a pass and went down town and some pictures taken. George had 4 taken. February 18, 1865 - Saturday got a pass and went down town with George and see him stard for home and then went to the hors trot and then Came back and found Hiram Perry. February 19, 1865 - Sunday went down town to meating. got back and had dress parade at 4 1/2 oclock here. February 20, 1865 - Monday maled a letter to Laura A. A. had 2 drills. Lancy on Guard down town. Henry, Abbie and Alferd Palmer was up here to day. Mr. Persons Caled here. February 21, 1865 - Tuesday had 2 drills to day. I was on guard. February 22, 1865 - Wednesday had no drills to day. booth Co fell in and had several speaches and then sclosed and three cheers for the fall of Fort Supter. February 23, 1865 - Thursday had no drill in foor noon. in the after noon had drill. Walace Thomas Came here. he was maried yesterday. I sent home by him for ____ (**?) 15. I bought a wach of Dr. Haries. February 24, 1865 - Friday had no drill. rec a letter from George and one from Ela. about 12 oclock we sarded for St. Albans. got thar about 3 oclock and marched up to barrack. the barracks are very nice and comferterble. Lance got a letter. February 25, 1865 - Saturday had no drill. John Manney and George Hewett Came up heare today. rote a letter to Mother. February 26, 1865 - Sunday had enspection. went to meating. rote letters 1 to alice 1 to Martha and 1 to Ela. February 27, 1865 - Monday rote to Frank Bullard. was on Guard at the Court hous. went with one of the priserners to supper. Henry Boardman Came up here to day and Norm. February 28, 1865 - Tuesday had enspection and was mustered for pay. Joel on Guard to the Camp. March 1, 1865 - Wednesday Norm on Guard to the Jale. I am padroll. Henry went home on the 5 oclock train. got back about 3 oclock in the morning. March 2, 1865 - Thursday pleasant. Staid in Camp all day. got a letter from Joshua. March 3, 1865 - Friday Joel and Norm on Guard to the Courthous. I and Lance on patroll and 2nd releve With Corp Johnson. snowed sum. March 4, 1865 - Saturday staid in Camp all day. the boys rode 20 horses. it snowed. March 5, 1865 - Sunday pleasant. I and Norman on Guard up to Governours. March 6, 1865 - Monday pleasant. I had a ride. Lancy acted as Corpal to day. Albert Boardman Came up here. got here about 7 in the eving. March 7, 1865 - Tuesday Joel, Norm and I was on Guard to the Jale. had plenty of pie to eat at the Tremont house. March 8, 1865 - Wednesday Staid in Camp all day. Albert went down town. March 9, 1865 - Thursday Albert and I went down town together in the afternoon and eveing. Stormed Sum. I rode today. March 10, 1865 - Friday I staid in Camp all day. Albert went home at five oclock in the morning. March 11, 1865 - Saturday I went to Alburg on Guard to day. Norman is Corpl of Camp Guard to day, It stormed in the knight. the 2stF (**?) Co Came to St Albans. March 12, 1865 - Sunday Staid in the house all day. it Stormed and blowed all day hard. March 13, 1865 - Monday we wer releved by the 2stF (**?) Co boys. the Cars were blocked in with snow. found father here. went and staid to Mr Hoyets all night with him. March 14, 1865 - Tuesday got a pass and went out to Mr Daves and staid all night. had a good time. March 15, 1865 - Wednesday got back about 12 oclock. staid in Camp. Lancy was on gurad at Camp. March 16, 1865 - Thursday father went home on the noon train. I was on guard to the Jail. March 17, 1865 - Friday Came of guard. Staid in Camp all day. bought a watch. paid 1 dolar in money and my album. sroped watches. paid 12 doalrs to boot. Joel & Norm went to Albirg. March 18, 1865 - Saturday I was on guard to the Court hous. Allen Olmsted was Corpal. March 19, 1865 - Sunday Staid in Camp all day. went to meating in the eveing. Lancy is acting Corpal. March 22, 1965 - Wednesday rained all day. I staid in Camp all day. had no dress prade. got a letter from Joshua. March 23, 1865 - Thursday Joel and Norman went to Alburg on guard. rained some. wrot a letter to Mother. March 24, 1865 - Friday was on picit. Staid in Camp all day. March 25, 1865 - Saturday Staid in Camp all day. March 26, 1865 - Sunday went to meating. see Mrs Daves and Mary and attended a feurnerwell of a soldier. pleasand. March 27, 1865 - Monday went on guard here at Camp. Lancey went an got sum shuggar. March 28, 1865 - Tuesday Came of guard. got a letter from Joshua. the Co had a drill with ther horses. wrote 2 letters. March 29, 1865 - Wednesday had drill in the foornoon. in the afternoon had a drill and dress parade down town. I did not go down town. was sick. March 30, 1865 - Thursday had drill with horses today. I did not drill. came to the Hospertal. March 31, 1865 - Friday Staid in Hospertal all day. April 1, 1865 - Saturday Staid in Hosper... . had a soar throat. April 2, 1865 - Sunday got a letter from Anna. was better. April 3, 1865 - Monday staid in Hosper.... all day. April 4, 1865 - Tuesday Had a Selapration to day for the batel of Petersburg and Richmond. fired one hunderd Saluts an so on. got a letter from home. Lance came down here to night. April 5, 1865 - Wednesday rained som. got 2 letters. our yanng (**?) folks Came today. had 2 volum Come. April 6, 1865 - Thursday rained sum. I came back to Camp. the hospertal boys moved to the new one. Lancy on pickit to night. April 7, 1865 - Friday had no drill. had a dress parade down town. April 8, 1865 - Saturday had mounted drill. I took Norms horse and drilled and had dress parade. pleasant. April 9, 1865 - Sunday Lance and I went out about 2 1/2 miles for a walk and then I went out to Mrs Davis and caled a little while. got a letter from Mother. April 10, 1865 - Monday got the news that Gen Lee had surendered. had a selabaration and fired 200 guns down town. had sum speachs by the ofercers here at Camp. April 11, 1865 - Tuesday rained sum last night. Lancee was on picit. I am on picit to night. 1 year ago to day bgin wirk for Pain. it snowed sum. April 12, 1865 - Wednesday Staid in Camp most all day. Sleep some. April 13, 1865 - Thursday went and rode with Normans horse. Lance whent with me. had a good ride. April 14, 1865 - Friday fast day today. got a Pass and went down town. April 15, 1865 - Saturday herd that Abram Lincon was dead. I Staid in Camp all day. Washed me. R Blazo Came up here to night. April 16, 1865 - Sunday Lancy Allen George and Rol went to meating. I went to the Cathalic in the eveing. April 17, 1865 - Monday had mounded drill in foor noon. had Saber in the after noon. April 18, 1865 - Tuesday I was on Camp guard. rained hard in fore noon. Mr Abbott Caled her on his way to uncle Lymons. April 19, 1865 - Wednesday George Blazo went home this morning on a furlo until Monday. I sent home my over Coat and shoes by him. April 20, 1865 - Thursday had 2 drills 1 mounded drill. I and Lance went down town. April 21, 1865 - Friday Allen Olmsted went home to stay till the 26 of April. sent a letter by him that I got from Josh. April 22, 1865 - Saturday I was on guard. rained. got 10 dolars of Griffin Grenell. April 23, 1865 - Sunday had inspection to day. Joel and Norm was on Picket. April 24, 1865 - Monday snowed some. was on fattege. George Blazo got back. April 25, 1865 - Tuesday pleasant day. had drill down town. Major drilled ous. April 26, 1865 - Wednesday Allen got back. fetched me some things. I was on fatege to day. April 27, 1865 - Thursday pleasand. went on picket. rained sum in the night. April 28, 1865 - Friday Cane of picket and went on fatige. moved hay. got my things from down town that Allen fetched. May 1, 1865 - Monday got a pass and went down town and out to Mrs Davis. Leut Baldwin got back from Brattlebury and is musterd in as Capt. had my hare Cut. Lancy got a pass. Tiler was shot through the leg and Atwood in the neck. it was an axident. wrote 3 letters. May 5, 1865 - Friday went on guard over to the brick house. May 6, 1865 - Saturday Came of picket. got a pass and went down town. Caled to Mrs Tilers. rained hard. May 7, 1865 - Sunday went to meating. had a good time Lance went to. pleasant. June 6, 1865 - Tuesday pleasant. sined for our rubber blankets $5.90. June 7, 1865 - Wednesday had drill. pleasant. staid in Camp. June 8, 1865 - Thursday had drill. went down to the bay and washed. the third Battery got to Burlington to day. June 9, 1865 - Friday had 2 drills. rained in the night. Lance went home. June 10, 1865 - Saturday rainy. I am on guard down town. Joel went to Alburg. June 11, 1865 - Sunday had inspection. I went to meating in the after noon. Caled to Mr Youngs. June 12, 1865 - Monday Came home on the morning train. went to lake dunmor with Clestia Hattie France. went over to Couin Marys with Clesta. June 13, 1865 - Tuesday went to the Citty with Albert Boardman. Caled to A. C. C to dinner. Albert and L Aptell went to the vilige. went by Hamons. see Laura Abbey. June 14, 1865 - Wednesday got back to St Alban 6 oclock. Lucian (**?) Caried me to the deapot. was on guard here at Camp. June 15, 1865 - Thursday Came of guard. Oscar Johnson went home. Caried uncle watch to him. June 16, 1865 - Friday rainy. staid in camp all day. did not drill. June 17, 1865 - Saturday turned over our Saddles and boxed them up. had no drill. very warm. June 18, 1865 - Sunday very warm all day. I did not go to meeting. June 19, 1865 - Monday very warm. had no drill. went up to the brook with Joel Joshua and Lewis Gilman came. June 20, 1865 - Tuesday went to Higate with Joel. Norm Lance and Allen Oscar Josh. and Lewis and I. had a good time. rainy sum. June 21, 1865 - Wednesday Joshua and Lewis and I went down town. June 22, 1865 - Thursday the old Cavalry Came here to day. went down town in the evening. June 23, 1865 - Friday Came to Burlington. went to the hospertal and Campt. June 24, 1865 - Saturday Came home. went to the Citty. June 25, 1865 - Sunday George and I went down and washed. went to the Citty. Caled to Jennes. Norm and I went down to the Lake. xxxx June 26, 1865 - Monday Caled to Aunt Harriets. rained at night. got Thad Kelseys photograph. June 27, 1865 - Tuesday father Came to day. I went around with him. he went to St Albans at night. we was musterd out of servis to Day in Burlington Vt. June 28, 1865 - Wednesday we got our pay and Discharge. I got $76 1/2. Thad and I went to Essex and staid all night. June 29, 1865 - Thursday went to St Albans. went to meatting. had supper to Mrs Youngs. Came to Milton and staid all night with Jud Fairchild. June 30, 1865 - Friday Came to Middlebury. got thare 11 oclock at night. staid at the Addison House.
