hoed Corn in the foornoon.  in the after noon did not

wirk.  George and Father and John Manney Came out

here.  Father and I went to see Sophrana.  they staid

all night.



July 3, 1866 - Tuesday

be gone haying.  patched 3 barns.



July 4, 1866 - Wednesday

uncle Elmer Came out here to day.  raised the shed. 

got in 2 loads of hay.  rainy in the afternoon.



July 5, 1866 - Thursday

fixed the watter.  mowed Some.



July 6, 1866 - Friday

Sawed wood and howed the Garden.  Mr and Mrs Elmer

went a visiting.



July 7, 1866 - Saturday

went to vergens in the foornoon.  Lost a half a day. 

got in hay in the afternoon.

rainy.  Staid at home.  went a swimming.



July 9, 1866 - Monday

wirked at the watter.  wirked in the Barn yard.  Mr

Elmer went to Middlebury.

Mr and Mrs Elmer went to Vergens.  I hoed Corn.  R.

finished howing Corn.   got a letter from Mother.

Mrs Elmer not very well yesterday and to day.  I staid

at home all day.



July 16, 1866 - Monday

Mr Elmer went to Middlebury to mill.  mowed in the

afternoon.  



July 17, 1866 - Tuesday

mowed and drawed hay 4 loads.



July 18, 1866 - Wednesday

mowed and drawed hay.  5 loads.  rainy in the

afternoon.

I fixed fence in the foornoon.  Mr Elmer mowed.

went over to uncles and Helens.  went to the Citty to

JPC.  went to Middlebury in the eve.  staid with Alb.



October 25, 1866 - Thursday

Albert and I Started for Ohio. at 10.25.  stopt in

Rutland 3 ours.  met A Piper and Hattie Robbins in

Saratoga Springs  (**New York)  at 6 oc P.M.  



October 26, 1866 - Friday

got to N. Falls at 7 AM.  staid till 10 A.M.  Left

Buffalo at 1 P.M.  got to Espyville  (**PA) 9.40 PM on

the Rawhide.  Staid at the hotell all night.



October 27, 1866 - Saturday

road to uncles with Will Enos.  got thare 11 am. 

Laurer (*lowery)  day.  Staid to Aunt Marys all night.

(** This is the first time he has made the entry using

that term.  "A lowery day" becomes very prominent in

his writings later on. It is an old expression meaning

the clouds are low and it is a grey day)

uncle Paul Carred ous to Burk hill.  got thare at

went up to town to a trial of a young man that shot a

women by the name of Roofe.  got a knife 75 cts.

Staid to uncle Porters all day long.   very pleasant.

came to Clevland.  staid with Albert Pipper.  got here

at 2 oc Pm.

looked around the Citty.  got Some picutres taken. 

see John Farwell.  Hattie Robbins came to night.

viseted to A J Piper with Hattie Robbins.  Albert and

I and etc played eucre in the eve.  left Clevland for

Telada (**Toledo?) 9 Pm.



December 6, 1866 - Thursday

got to Teloda 2 oc Am.  found 2 letters here.  staid

till 8 oc Am and Came to Jackson (**Michigan).  got

thare 10 oc Am.  staid til 2 oc PM and came to Reives

Junction.  got to D T Wilcox 6 PM.  caled to see Julia

Yale but she was gone home.  found 2 letters waiting.



December 7, 1866 - Friday

wend and Caled to all the Cousens.  had dinner to Hin

to supper to Mr Legetts.  staid all night to Mr Foots

Staid to Mr Foots in Am.  in Pm went over to the depot

and got our trunks.  staid to Mr Foots all night.

went to Meeting.  very Cold and ran day.  Stoped to D.

went over to Albert Foots and over to Harris and Caled

to Hellen and Miss Curtis.  had a party to D. P.  had

a good time etc.    



December 11, 1866 - Tuesday

went over to Edwards Curtis in AM.  Staid all night. 

Carrie Came over. (**probably Carrie Foote)



December 12, 1866 - Wednesday

Cold day.  Staid to Albert Foots all night.  went down

to Tompkins to mill.  Albert B got a letter from

Helen. 



December 13, 1866 - Thursday

Snowed Some.   Staid to Albert Foots all day.  in the

eve went over to Lates.  put on my woolen shirt.

Decenber 14, 1866 - Friday

Albert went over to Arland P O.  got me a letter from

Hat.  got Nellie,  one from Norm.  in Pm quilted to

Nellies in eve went over to Vains.  all hands

Edward and Jim Albert and I went to Jackson.  got back

7 oc.  went through the prison.

snowed all day.  staid to Ed most all day.  Staid to

Mr Foots all night.

went over to Arland PO.  maled a letter to Hattie. 

Staid to C Foots all night.  went over to Harris.

Mr Foot went to Jackson.  helpt Albert (**probably

Albert Foote) draw hay.  Mr Wilcox kiled 12 hoggs. 

went over to Eds in the eve.  Nell went.  I staid with

Nell.  Albert staid with Albert.

Stormy in Am.  in Pm Mr Foot and I went over west 4

miles.  went to Harrissess to a dance in the eve.  C

and E.C. Came back to Hairs.

went over and helpt Harris slick up.  went to Mr

Legetts.  Helen and I Alb and Lizzie C. went to ride.

Staid to Mr Foots all day.  went to singing school. 

all hands of ous.  had a good time.  Maryan went to.



December 22, 1866 - Saturday

thoughing to day.  A Food (*Foote)  Albert and I went

over to Arlgnd.  got a letter.  went to Mr Legett in

the eve.  staid to Edd.

Stormy.  Staid to Edds all day.  Helen Came up to

Alberts in the eve.  I staid with All all night . I

went home with C.

we all went turky hunting.  see 12.  shot 3 squirrel. 

went around by Fields.  A. Foote and I.   staid to

Edds.  A. B staid with A. Foote.  



December 25, 1866 - Tuesday

went hunting.  Edd Curtis A.B  A F.  Moses C. and  W.

C.  and I .  se 20 turkies.  had a partie to Nelie

Footes.  16 Cupples.  had a good time.  staid with A.

Foote.

Staid to Nellies all day.  went to Edds in the eveing.

Albert Foot kiled his hogs.  pretty Cold.  Staid to

staid to Hins till about 2 oc PM.  Came over to

Nelles.  went to singing school A. Foot and Carrie and

Lizzie  Nellie  All and I.

team.  got to letters one from Norm and Hattie R.

Went to meeting.  came with Nellie to Edd's to supper.

found pleasant company.  Spent the evening at

Horace's.  Staid all night at Mr.  Foot's.  had a very

pleasant time indeed.

Staid here most all day to Nellies.  helpt her some

about washing.  wrote 3 letters.  about 500.  Albert

and I went over to Hins and down to Mr Leggetts.  Came

back to Mr Wilcox.  Staid all night.  Isac and Hin

Came over here.
