Staid to Nellies till about 8 oclock.  Came up to

Carries.  Staid till Evening.  Came to J. Elliotte.

drawed hay in Am.  hold in Pm.

mowed Some and drawed Some.  rained in Am.

drawed Hay.  I made a Stack for the first time.

drawed in Am.  Cocked up in Pm.

very warm.  Mr Elliotte went to Jackson.  Pat and I

drawed hay all day.  went to the Junction in the Eve.

Jim Smart and Vanrankin went down by Boltons and had a

good swim.  then Jim and I came over to Hares.  Caled

to Carries and Nellies.



July 13, 1868 - Monday

begone Harvesting.  very warm day etc etc.

VERY VERY warm day.  I got bushed.  worked most of the

time.

VERY warm.  not very well to day.   worked most of the

Came over to work etc.  Cut oats and drawed a load of

Hay and Cocked up some etc etc.  



July 28, 1868 - Tuesday

Pat Cradled oats all day etc etc.  Pat or I Broke the

Cradle and he went and got Welches.  I drawed hay in

Pm.  



July 29, 1868 - Wednesday

Stacked hay Mr Elliotte and I in Am.  Cut oats in Pm. 



July 30, 1868 - Thursday

Cut oats all day.  Mr Elliotte went to Jackson.  sent

my watch up to be fixed.  



July 31, 1868 - Friday

rainy most all day etc etc.  I drawed some Manewer.



August 1, 1868 - Saturday

Came over on the St. (**?)   Staid to Hares to diner. 

went over to Isac.  Staid all night.



August 2, 1868 - Sunday

Came over to Nellies and up to Hares.  we all went to

the river for a walk.  Fanny Kellog was here.  Staid

to Hares.  



August 3, 1868 - Monday

Cut oats etc.



August 4, 1868 - Tuesday

Cut oats and Marsh Hay etc.   finished work etc. 



August 5, 1868 - Wednesday

went to Jackson with Albert.  got a Valace (*valice). 

Came home with him.  staid all night etc etc.  



August 6, 1868 - Thursday

went up St.  Caled to Nellies and Carries.  worked for

Hare in Pm.  Staid with Will all night.



August 7, 1868 - Friday

worked for Hare in Am.  in Pm went down St etc.  Came

back to Hares.  Carrie and Nellie was thare.   played

Eucre etc. X    Wallie and I went down to the boys. 

staid all night etc.



August 8, 1868 - Saturday

went up St in Am.  went to Jackson Joel Wallie Birt

and I.  I got a Trunk etc.  Staid with Wallie.



August 9, 1868 - Sunday

staid to Delia till about 3 oclock.  went down to

Nellies.  Came back to Harrisons.  Staid all night

etc.  (A. A.B. staid with Wallie.) 



August 10, 1868 - Monday

went over to Elliottes and Trues.  did not settle with

Elliotte but he paid me $29.00.  Staid with Wallie all

night.



August 11, 1868 - Tuesday

went down to the Boys in Am etc.  in Pm Called Nellies

and Carries.  She and I went horse back rideing around

by Kims.  we all went down to Nellies in the Eve.  A A

B Staid with me to D P Wilcox.   



August 12, 1868 - Wednesday

Started for Hart.  was about five minutes to Late. 

went back to the Boys.  Staid to diner.  went up to

Nellies.  Called to supper.  went up to Carries.  she

and I went over to Hares.  Staid to H B Footes all

night.



August 13, 1868 - Thursday

Left Tompkins this morn.   got up about 5 oclock. 

Delia got me some Breakfast.  Started for the

Junction.  got thare in time.  got to Owosow 9 oclock

Am.  staid till 3 Pm.  got to Ionia about 5 oclock. 

Caled to Footes to supper.  Staid to Baileys all

night.  



August 14, 1868 - Friday

Mr Foote and I started for Sheridan.  got about 8

miles.  met Stebbens.  Come Back.  had a gay time in

town with Steb.  staid to Baileys all night etc etc.  



August 15, 1868 - Saturday

Started for the Rappeds.  got thare about 9 oclock. 

Staid till noon.  Started for Jamestown.  got thare

about sun down.  found the folks all well etc.



August 16, 1868 - Sunday

Albert Whitney and I Looked around etc.  went around

by Helens etc.  very pleasant day.



August 17, 1868 - Monday

went up to the Center in Am.  rainy some.  in Pm we

went over to Helens with the oxen.  they run away etc

went to the Center in Am.  in Pm went down to Chan

Tilitsons etc etc etc.

Albert and Chan Came to Granville with me.  had Diner.

I started for the Rapeds about 3 oclock.  got to G.

Haven about 8 oclock.  Staid all night etc.

Laid by in Grand Haven all day and night at the Mich

Exchange Hoetll keep by Baird.

Started for Pent Watter about 7 oclock.  got thare

about 3 oc.  found Lenard Delno thare.  road up to

Hart with him.  got thare about 7 oc etc etc.  went to

August 22, 1868 - Saturday

found Aunt Maria Poorly and Susen very Poorly.  looked

around some like very well so fir.  Left my Watch to

be fixed.  very pleasant. (**Aunt Maria and Uncle Paul

Staid to Henrys most all day etc.  rote letters etc. 

went to Meeting in the Evening.

Staid to Uncle Pauls most all day.  played B Gamon.  I

got beat.  went down town in the Evening.

Uncle Paul and I went over to Rusels and Mr Butters. 

had Diner to R and Supper to B.  over to Mirias in the

Eve.  heard some music.  Staid to Uncle Pauls all

night etc etc.

went down town.  bought me a pair of Bootes.  went to

Looging about 10 oclock with Johnson and Williams etc.

Looged all all day.  pleasant day etc.

Staid to Uncle Pauls most all day.  Susie Lenard and I

went to Carrie Mary Fular home Just at night.  she

came back.

had a Sing to Henrys.  rainy most all day etc etc. 

got my Watch home to day.  played gamon and Eucre with

Uncle P.  Came out Even on Eucre.



September 1, 1868 - Tuesday

worked Loging all day etc.  played two games of Back

gamon with Uncle Paul.  I beat him bad.  



September 2, 1868 - Wednesday

rainy etc all day.  had a Picnic in Hufs Hall in Pm

for the Sabath School childern.  Had a Ball to Mowers

etc.  I went. 



September 3, 1868 - Thursday

worked Loging all day etc etc.  did not feel first

rate.

Fred Rusell Spoke  "dunwell".  worked Loging all day

etc.  about sick in Am.  better in Pm etc.

worked Loging all day etc.  got about 6 acres Loged of

etc.

Williams went home Early in the morning etc.  Staid to

Uncle P most all day.  Susin and I Came over to Henrys

a little while in the evening.

worked burning Log heeps and Sawed some etc In Am.  in

Pm Cut road etc etc.  wend over to Girnes.  I was

sick.  



September 8, 1868 - Tuesday

rainy most all day.  Aunt Mariar went over to Petteys.

I staid to Henrys most all day etc.  rote Letters and

one to A.A.B. etc.  did not work.  



September 9, 1868 - Wednesday

did not work to day etc.  not very well.  not very

worked Branding up in the foler all day etc. 



September 11, 1868  - Friday

worked all day in the foler.  went to Grant meeting. 

Mr Tompson spoke.  Speach was pip top ok.

Democrats had a meeting.  worked all day Loging etc. 

went down town.  Staid to Henrys all night etc.  



September 13, 1868 - Sunday

went over to Hiram's and Johns.  Staid to H- to

supper.  had all the Peaches I could Eat.  Came back

to Uncles in the Eve.



September 14, 1868 - Monday

got a letter from Mrs Foote.  worked all day Loging

etc etc.  set some fires etc etc.  rainy at night.

September 15, 1868 - Tuesday

helpt Hiram Rusell thrash in Am 186 bushels of wheat

in all spring and winter etc.   in Pm drawed Hay John

and I.  



September 16, 1868 - Wednesday

My Birthday(**his 21st)   did not work. had diner over

to Henrys   had a letter from home.   went over wheat.

Cleaned up some.  got some peaches. (**note in back:

September 17, 1868 - Thursday 

worked all day in the loging field.  



September 18, 1868 - Friday

worked Clearing of the land ready to sowe Wheat. 

Joshua Came here about 6 oclock Pm from New Orleans

La.  Staid to Henrys with Josh.  



September 19, 1868 - Saturday 

rainy did not work etc.  washed the dishes etc for

Susen.  I staid to Uncle Pauls.  Joshua staid to Hen.



September 20, 1868 - Sunday

went to meatting in Am with Mire and Susen.  rote a

letter to Mr and Mrs Foote.  Staid with Josh to

Henrys.



September 21, 1868 - Monday

sowed wheat 6 acres.  I and Len dragged all day.  had

Marvins oxen.  pleasant. 



September 22, 1868 - Tuesday

worked all day.  dragged till about 2 oclock etc. 

took the oxen home.  got some peaches to Mary Marvins

then split rails etc.   went to Girneys to a Dance. 

Josh staid and I and Kirg staid to Henrys all night.  



September 23, 1868 - Wednesday

Josh and Lenard went to Pent Watter.  split rails and

Choped Some etc etc.  got a Letter from H. Wilcox.



September 24, 1868 - Thursday

Choped all day makeing Fence etc.  Loury all day etc. 



September 25, 1868 - Friday

Josh 25 to day.   worked till about 2 oclock.  rained

quite Harde.  Come to the House. 



September 26, 1868 - Saturday

was not very well.  did not work.  Horrice Worked etc.

played Eucre.

rainy and Coald etc.  Staid to Uncle P. most all day. 

Eat supper to Henrys and Staid all night with Joshua

Cut down the big Elm in Am.  Caled it a half day.

worked around the Mill at most Evry thing.

Joshua and I Came up to Hart.  got up here at noon.

got some apples.  went by Crystal Lake.

Staid to Henrys most of the day.  went to Mr Bears to

supper etc etc.  



November 3, 1868 - Tuesday

Election day down town most of the time.  120 for

Grant.  dance in the Eve.

(**Quite by accident I found a piece of paper tucked

in the back of this diary that appears to be a

political publication.  At the top is a drawing of

Grant, and in large letters "Grant and Colfax".  Under

that is a list of Presidental Electors geared for that

county and state.  On the back of this paper is

written in his hand, "1868 My first vote  F. D.

Hyde".)



November 4, 1868 - Wednesday

Albert and Helen and Aunt Mariar Started.  Len Carried

them.  I and Helen and Paul and King wer over to

Gurneys.



November 5, 1868 - Thursday

went down town in Am.  got 2 Letters and Mailed one to

Mrs Foote.  in Pm helpt Susen Wash etc.  



November 6, 1868 - Friday

Came to Pent Watter with Dr Williams.  had Diner with

Payson.  Staid all night.  



November 7, 1868 - Saturday

helpt put Lumber in the Hole in Pm.  in Pm Loaded

Spairs.  rainy.  played Gamon in the Eve Payson and I.

worked Loading Spars till about one oclock.  went up

to Robinson.  got Left on the Hamilton.  got a passage

on the Suveneer.  Left Pent Watter for Chicago 6

oclock at night.  rainy.

I was quite sick on the Lake all day etc.  Dead Calm

from noon till half past 8 at night.

haled wood and Slabs etc in Am.  in Pm Deliverd.  went

to see Booth play Hamlet etc.

Diliverd Coal in Am.  in Pm haled from the Car. 

Albert and I went down town in the Eve.  got me a pair

of Boots.

December 15, 1868 - Tuesday

drawed Wood part of the time from the foote of

Carpenter St.  drawed 2 loads of Coake etc.  



December 16, 1868 - Wednesday

Worked all day.  drawed Wood and Diliverd Coal etc

etc.  Pliny  Mr. Reasner and I went down town in the

eve.



December 17, 1868 - Thursday

did not Work.  went down town in Am.  Caled and see

Pliny.  went up in the Court House etc etc.  Left

Chicago at 3 oclock Pm for Rochelle.  got  here about

7 oclock.  found Mr Bump.  Staid with him, etc. 



December 18, 1868 - Friday

got up.  Looked around Some.  got a ride down to Mr

Crumles to Flag Station. went down there.  Came up to

Rochelle.  staid all night etc. 



December 19, 1868 - Saturday

Left for Dixon (**Ill.) about 12 oclock.  got thare 1

oclock Pm.  found the folks all well etc.  I staid to

Vanes all night.  Albert Staid with Joshua.   



December 20, 1868 - Sunday

Staid to Aunt Marthas and Vanes all day etc.  Staid

with Albert to Eds all night.  all to Johns in the

Eve.  has some nuts etc. 



December 21, 1868 - Monday

quite coald.  Ed and Uncle went to but (*put)  up a

Scale.  Albert Josh and I went Skateing in Pm.  went

over to Vanes in Eve.  Staid with Johny all night etc.



December 22, 1868 - Tuesday

very Coald and windy etc.  Staid to Vanes all day etc.

rote a letter.



December 23, 1868 - Wednesday

very Coald.  Staid to Vanes the most of the time.  Edd

and Uncle got back.



December 24, 1868 - Thursday

went down in am.  in Pm Edd  Albert and I got Some

Ice.  Albert got in to Rock River.  helpt him out etc

etc.  played Eucre till one oclock.  staid to Vanes

all night



December 25, 1868 - Friday

we all went down and Skated.  Came up to Uncles to

Supper.  very pleasant day etc etc.



December 26, 1868 - Saturday

Snowed some etc etc etc.  Tinkerd around.  worked up a

little wood etc.  Staid to Vanes.



December 27, 1868 - Sunday

Staid to Johns most all day.  had a good wash.  all

Came over to Vanes to Supper.  had oysters.  



December 28, 1868 - Monday

drew up 3 Loads of Ice for Uncle.  Staid to Edds all

night etc.  



December 29, 1868 - Tuesday

Roice went to Chicago.  worked up wood for Uncle in

Am.  Edd went to Morrison at noon.  Kate and I went up

town. had a gay rid(*ride) etc etc.



December 30, 1868 - Wednesday

sold my Pistol $5.  Uncle L. went Amboy.  John Started

for Sedar Falls Iowa with Cutters at 2 oclock. Pm. 

Staid to Smits in Am.  in Pm went down town.     



December 31, 1868 - Begon Work for Cheney and Mason at

$20 per month.  worked about the shop all day etc. 

very rough night. (all begon to March) (**?)
