EUGENE NICHOLS was born in Middlesex, and enlisted from that town at the age of 19. He was one of the liveliest boys in the Company, and his sense and non-sense often served to cheer the drooping spirits of his comrades and tide them over rough places. He was given the title of "Magus" presumably on account of his words of wisdom. He did good service and was discharged with the regiment. He re-enlisted February 4, 1865 in Company D, 2nd Vermont Regiment. After his return he had a law-suit with the town of Middlesex to recover the full amount of his bounty which was carried at last to the supreme court and decided in his favor. He has lived since the war in the West. His address is Evansville, Wis. He marled Miss Vie Lee of that place. He has one daughter, Grace.
