Information from the Revised Roster and cemetery material indicates Edwin D. Burgess died 10 August 1862, and was originally buried at the Lovell General Hospital, in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, subsequently reinterred at the Cyprus Hill National Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.

According to his bible, however, he died 13 August.

In Grove Hospital, Portsmouth, R.I., Aug. 13th, Edwin D. Burgess of Chelsea, aged 18 years. He was a member of Co. D, 4th Vt. Regiment.
