Ozias D. Matthewson
St. Johnsbury Caledonian, April 17, 1863
On board steamship State of Maine, May 1862, Osias D. Mathewson, son of Charles and Sarah Mathewson of Wheelock, aged 23 years - a member of Co. E, 6th reg't Vt. Vols. His disease was typhoid pneumonia. The place of his burial was not known to his friends; but, after long and diligent search, his remains were found near Washington, D.C., and were sent to his friends in Wheelock, where on the 27th of March, suitable services were performed and the remains interred in the village burial ground.
