WILBUR MONTA

Last Surviving Civil War Veteran of Colchester Dies

COLCHESTER, May 11. - Wilbur Monta, aged 89 years, the last surviving Civil War veteran in this town died last night following an illness of several months. He had been in a hospital since November 28 last.

He had always lived on the farm in Colchester where he was born. He enlisted in Company F, 8th Regiment Infantry, in 1864, and served for the duration of the war.

Mr. Monta leaves two daughters, Mrs. Etta O. Small of North Windham, Me., and Mrs. Electa Pratt of Portland, Me.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Full military honors will be accorded him at his funeral services to be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Champlain school house with a company of soldiers from Fort Ethan Allen acting as escorts. The Rev. Charles G. King, pastor of the United Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Champlain cemetery.
