CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT WEST RUTLAND HOME
Rutland Daily Herald (week of 8-14 Oct 1922) -
Patrick H. Mumford of West Rutland died Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home of his daughter Mrs. P. J. Burke of the Castleton road, following a paralytic shock which he suffered a few days ago.
The deceased was born in Ira, December 14, 1843, and was a son of James and Mary Conoford Mumford, natives of Ireland.
Mr. Mumford's parents were early settlers here and when very young he moved with them to West Rutland. When the Civil war broke out he enlisted in company D, 7th Vermont volunteers, being then 18 years of age. He remained in the service until the close of the war.
Mr. Mumford carried on his home _____ in Ira for a period of 35 years. He is survived by nine daughters and three sons.
The funeral will be held at St. Bridget's church, West Rutland, tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Main Street cemetery there.
