The Vermont Journal, October 17, 1863.

Killed in battle at Gettysburg, July 2d, Sylvanus A. Winship, of Weston, Vt., a member of Co. C, 16th Vt. Vols., aged 26. Mr. W. was a worthy and much-loved member of the Baptist Church in Weston. He was highly esteemed by the officers and members of his Company. He was a brave soldier, true patriot and devoted Christian. He has left a young widow and other near relatives to mourn his loss.
