Stephen F. Spaulding
St. Johnsbury Caledonian
July 10, 1863
Lieut. Stephen F. Spaulding, Adjutant of the 8th Vermont, was killed in the engagement at Port Hudson on the 8th, by a shot through the head. Lieut. Spaulding was from Derby Line, and went out as 1st Lieut. of Co. B, which was raised at that place. From the first he has had, until very lately, the entire charge of the company, the captain being on detached service.
