Pioneer Railroad Man Dies in This City.
Henry C. Allen, a civil war veteran and pioneer railroad man of Sargents, died very suddenly in this city Monday at the age of 75 years. Deceased had come to the city from Sargents for treatment only the day before. Mr. Allen was born in North Bernard, Vermont, March 7, 1838. He had been a resident of Sargent for the past thirty years. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. A. M. Maclean. The G.A.R. took charge of the services at the grave.

Steve's note: Notes on Henry C Allen: died on "Monday", which was March 3rd, 1913. Pension Payment Card Index confirms this date. Served as private in Co E, 72nd Illinois Infantry. "Database of Illinois Veterans" lists his birth place as Pomfret, VT (obit had said "North Bernard(sic)"). A resident of Maine, Cook Co, IL when enlisted 8/4/1862 and must. in 8/21/62. Discharged for disability on 2/11/1863. A listing (but no photo) on Find a Grave says he was buried in Fairview Cemetery, in Salida, CO.
